The strategy will consolidate the Council’s vision for economic development and identify strategies to achieve growth in the coming decade.
As a starting point, SGS is seeking input from the community and is asking both businesses and residents to complete a short survey.
The survey will provide both a snapshot of existing economic activity and identify areas of community interest and concern.
North Sydney Mayor Jilly Gibson said the Council was committed to keeping its two CBDs and villages centres vibrant and viable.
“North Sydney is one of the most productive business districts in NSW. We generate more than $16 billion for the economy and are part of Sydney’s global arc.
“Importantly, we have many knowledge based industries in North Sydney so our business community is not just generating wealth and employment now, but will be key drivers to the future.”
The Economic Development Strategy will consolidate Council’s vision for commercial areas into one document. General Manager Warwick Winn said North Sydney Council had done some outstanding work in recent years setting out a vision for the North Sydney CBD and St Leonards.
The Strategy will identify the needs of businesses of all sizes, from home-based businesses to multinationals.
It will examine market trends and explore how Council can support the needs of both the major commercial centres and small business operators. It will also address issues such as sustainability, social equity and future growth.
The business community was invited to have its say on issues of concern by completing a short survey.
