Southern Mann Street, Gosford, near the council chambers has been an eyesore for years with abandoned buildings and struggling shops.
This was once the grand entry for visitors to Gosford on the regular steamer service from Sydney. The steamers would tie up at a jetty in the vicinity of the old Gosford Primary School grounds.
It is hard to believe now but the area from the Brian McGovern Bridge to the swimming pool was once underwater. The whole area was reclaimed.
Bringing the promise of renewed life to the area will be the 600 employers of the new Australian Taxation Office, built on the former site of Gosford Primary.
Jobs will soon be advertised for positions within the new, purpose built ATO office. Construction is nearing completion, with new recruits expected to begin work from December this year.
Apart from the 600 new employees, more jobs for the region will have a flow-on impact within the community and will see a boost for many existing businesses. The large number of employees will also attract new businesses such as food services.
Construction to date has injected more than $7.5Ms into the Central Coast economy with most of the work being completed by contractors from the coast and surrounds.
Federal Member for Robertson Lucy Wicks said that these new jobs would provide hundreds of locals with new opportunities.
“Importantly, the office will establish a vital link with tertiary campuses in the area, providing career opportunities for our young people,” Ms Wicks said.
“I am delighted that we are now seeing construction nearing completion and job applications about to open.”
“The Turnbull Government remains committed to supporting regional development and the local Gosford community.”
Jobs will be advertised in a phased approach from August 24 through to August 2018. A variety of positions will be available, with the ATO looking for people with tax and legal expertise, or customer service, leadership, administration, finance and accounting skills. Ongoing, non-ongoing, full-time, part-time and casual roles will be available.
