INDIGENOUS IN SURF PROGRAM

Coast beaches attracts participants
A NUMBER of indigenous Central Coast youth were given the opportunity to partake in Surfing NSW’s and Coastalwatch’s Indigenous Surf Program at Avoca last month.

Held as part of the lead up to the Vissla Central Coast Pro, the weekend program gave the participants the opportunity to enjoy a day of water safety, learning to surf and motivational talks from indigenous local and current junior dynamo Finn Hill and the team at the Central Coast Surfing Academy.

Terrigal State MP Adam Crouch, who attended the day, said it was a great opportunity for local indigenous youngsters.

“Avoca Beach is recognised as one of the top surfing breaks in the nation and I was delighted to welcome surfers and fans from across the world to the Central Coast,” Crouch said.

The Coastalwatch Indigenous Surfing Program aims to attract large numbers of young indigenous communities to beaches throughout the state.

The program promotes health, enjoyment and wellbeing through the sport of surfing and ocean safety awareness, bringing positive education to indigenous communities.
