SCIENTISTS SCOOP AWARDS

Westmead researchers honored

SCIENTISTS at a major institution at Westmead, known worldwide for its research work, have been honoured for their work and the institution has been recognized locally in a completely different environment, namely, business.

In the research field, Professor Patrick Tam has been formally admitted as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences in recognition, in part, his knowledge, experience and pioneering research in the field of embryology.

Professor Tam follows in the footsteps of CMRI colleague, Ian Alexander, head of gene therapy, who was admitted earlier in the year.

Professor Ian Caterson has been awarded the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Foundation Medal for 2015 for Excellence and Outstanding Achievements in Research.

He said in his acceptance speech much work needed to be done to reduce the prevalence of obesity and diabetes in Australia and the rest of the world.

In recognition of its commercial expertise, CMRI received the business of the year 2015 award for overall excellence in the 25th anniversary of the awards, which are hosted by the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce.

The institution also received the excellence in marketing award in the recent Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence

This was in recognition for utilising a variety of marketing tools and techniques in order to effectively promote itself.
