The Central Coast is the only major regional centre in Australia without an airport.
Smaller regional cities like Dubbo, Tamworth, the Sunshine Coast, Geelong and Wagga all have regular daily air services. The locals in every instance report that the cows have not stopped giving milk, the chickens have not stopped laying, the locals have not sold up and left town because of “those new fangled flying machines.”
No-one has died from jet fumes or gone deaf from aircraft engines.
All jokes aside, the Central Coast Airport has the potential to be a major player in the airline industry, especially when Badgery’s Creek opens and Sydney airport diminishes.
It could expand south all the way to the M1, allowing larger jet aircraft to service the airport.
For too long, a handful of locals have held Wyong Shire Council to ransom over the development of the airport.
Hopefully, council’s current initiative to develop the site as an aviation centre will be backed up by the incoming council.
