Member of the NSW Upper House Taylor Martin said the state government was already at work, repairing and repainting the handrails to improve safety and aesthetics at a cost of around $400,000.
“NSW Roads and Maritime are identifying areas on the railing for treatment,” Mr Martin said.
“The treatment involves a number of coats, starting with a neutralisation coating followed by zinc rich primers and a sealing coat.
“Other maintenance will also be completed including replacing any deteriorated hold down nuts.”
Mr Martin said he had been contacted by a number of locals who had highlighted the need for the bridge to be repainted.
“This is a cost-effective method of maintenance which preserves the function of the railing, reduces future maintenance requirements and preserves the integrity of the bridge,” he said.
The maintenance and painting is expected to be completed in July, weather permitting. There will be no impact to access for cars, pedestrians or cyclists while the work is undertaken.
