Plans for Blacktown regional tennis centre

Blacktown City Council has developed a draft Masterplan to construct a Regional Tennis Centre.

The centre will comprise 16 courts to grow the sport of tennis across Greater Western Sydney and attract major tournaments across NSW. The centre at Stanhope Gardens is to be located within Blacktown City.

The courts will be covered in a quality plexicushion surface which is used at the Australian Open in Melbourne.  It will also include a show court with seating for a minimum 1000 people, a clubhouse, pro-shop, viewing deck, event administration and media rooms.

All of which comply with Tennis Australia’s Regional Tennis Facility Guidelines. It is estimated the Centre could have some 85,000 visits per year.

The annual contribution of the tennis centre to the local Blacktown economy is projected to be $2.24m. This is made up of flow generated by the demand for goods and services in other industries and the facility being used for significant tennis events.

The centre will generate approximately $9 million in output for the NSW economy over the entire construction phase and create in excess of 60 jobs.

The proposed Regional Tennis Centre at Stanhope Gardens will provide a premium quality facility to hold State and Regional tennis tournaments, competitions and a coaching business.

This is all designed to assist young players in the region and provide a facility for social sport, said the Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Len Robinson.

This investment by Blacktown City Council reinforces its commitment to providing quality sport and recreation services to support its growing population and build its credential as a sporting City.

In developing the draft Masterplan, Council has collaborated with key stakeholders including Blacktown Tennis Incorporated, Tennis NSW, Tennis Australia and Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope.
