BUNDY BOTTLED IN BACKTOWN

Relocation as part of shake-up

By Red Dwyer

BUNDY Rum bottled in Blacktown. That’s what Bundaberg Rum’s parent company, the international alcohol giant, Diageo, will do when it relocates the bottling of the Queensland drink to Huntingwood by July 1.

However, some premium products, such as, the Master Distillers Collection, would continue to be bottled in Bundaberg.

Diageo claims falling alcohol consumption and high excise are the main reasons for the relocation of Bundaberg Rum bottling from its home in Queensland to existing company facilities in Distillery Place, in Huntingwood.

The relocation is part of a shake-up of part of Diageo’s Australian bottling operations.

A total of 25 people will leave the business from middle management positions and back-office roles within the corporate, supply and commercial business.

Diageo’s supply division is the manufacturing division of the company located in Bundaberg and Huntingwood.

Also within the redundancies are up to five staff members from the commercial sales team.

“This decision comes in response to the continued pressure on our business from lower alcohol consumption and the punitive excise tax on spirits and RTDs [ready to drink beverages formerly known as alcopops] which has seen volumes decline significantly in recent year,” the company said
