GLOBAL EXPANDS TO USA

World orthopaedic market has a GWS player

WESTERN Sydney based orthopaedic implant manufacturer, Global Orthopaedic Technology, is showcasing Australian innovation after launching exports of its locally designed and produced Paragon™hip stem into the US – the world’s largest orthopaedic market.

Formed in 1999, Global has grown to become the country’s largest Australian-owned orthopaedic implant designer and manufacturer, with two research, design and manufacturing facilities in Bella Vista and Seven Hills, employing more than 55 staff.

Global’s new CEO, Andrew Fox-Smith, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the global orthopaedic market, described the export of the Paragon™ to the US as a “significant achievement” for the Western Sydney company.

“This is real recognition of the world-leading research, design and innovative manufacturing that Global is undertaking here in Western Sydney,” Mr Fox-Smith said.

“The Paragon™is testament to our strong commitment to producing high quality, innovative orthopaedic implants which are helping change the lives of people in Australia and across the world.”

Mr Fox-Smith said the Paragon™ is being distributed to the US after Global entered into a commercial agreement with Massachusetts-based OMNIlife science Inc.

It follows Global’s high performance GRU knee replacement being used in successful robotic surgery performed by surgeons in the United Kingdom.

“Global continues to work closely with some of Australia’s leading orthopaedic surgeons which allows us to offer a comprehensive range of devices that highlight our ability to develop and commercialise new products,” Mr Fox-Smith explained.

“We intend on building on the success of the Paragon™ by creating new export opportunities which will drive our sales both locally and overseas.”
