How Key2 aims to disrupt the rental market

KEY2 Realty is set to revolutionise the rental market on the Central Coast. Founded earlier this year, the new start-up’s mission is to donate profits to the registered charity, Pacific Link Housing.
Launched in March, Key2 Realty provides increased ability for Pacific Link to expand its capacity building programs for underprivileged tenants.

It already has 50 properties on its books, with licensee in charge, Jonathan McCaig, saying feedback and testimonials received to date had been extremely positive.

“There is a high level of interest coming from individuals and smaller scale developers who have embraced our social enterprise philosophy. Apart from expecting quality service, our clients want to work with a charity-owned real estate agency where profits are reinvested into the community,” Mr McCaig said.

Whilst the core business seeks to provide full-service property management at a competitive flat fee, Key2 Realty can also tap into their relationships with other community organisations, such as disability service providers, providing a pipeline of potential tenants and minimising vacancy risk.

From their annual surveys, Pacific Link know that their residents’ education outcomes are below NSW averages, with 54% of respondents having secondary education as highest level achieved.

These and other statistics reflect the level of social disadvantage within the resident population. Pacific Link’s programs focus on education and employment.

Improvement in educational attainments has a significant multiplier effect in delivering improved social outcomes and builds residents’ capacity to move on to mainstream housing.

Since the program’s start in 2014 over 250 education scholarships have been awarded.

Key2 Realty is soon to be tenanting the first completed Communities Plus development, located at Glendale, and will be letting 15 new one and two-bedroom apartments, with advertising starting in October.

Pacific Link CEO Ian Lynch said that in addition to its commitment to affordable housing, the community organisation also provides scholarships and support for education, employment and opportunity for those less fortunate in the community.

“Pacific Link is both the parent company of Key2 Realty, and one of the organisations that Key2 can draw on to source tenants for appropriate properties,” Mr Lynch said.

“Key2 specialises in investment property management that is rented out to private tenants, but with the added benefit that the profits go back to a registered charity, unlike a large franchise real estate agent.”

Recently, Key2 Realty received the opportunity to be featured in Bendigo Bank’s Bank of Goodwill initiative.

‘’Thanks to the generosity of East Gosford, Lisarow and Kincumber Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank, we will receive a feature video story profile valued at $5,000 from the Treehouse Creative agency, which will help us to tell our story and reach new landlords,’’ Mr McCaig said.

The video is estimated to be released by Christmas.
