An initiative of Hills Shire Youth Ambassadors Cassidy-Rae Wilson and Matthew Campbell, the Open Mic Competition is open to singers, poets, magicians, comedians or any young residents that want to get on stage and perform.
With cash prizes up for grabs, Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne said it was an opportunity for young performers to gain some experience in front of an audience.
“The Open Mic competition is a fantastic initiative from our Youth Ambassadors and Council is happy to support it,” Mayor Byrne said.
“We value performing arts and want to give youngsters every opportunity to develop their talents, confidence and experience.”
A Junior (6-12) and Senior (13-18) from each heat will progress through to the final which will be held on Thursday July 17.
Mayor Byrne encouraged young performers to apply now. “We’ve already had quite a few entrants so apply now before all the heats fill up,” Mayor Byrne said.

When: HEAT 1 Thursday May 29; HEAT 2 Thursday June 12; HEAT 3 Thursday June 19; FINAL Thursday July 17
Where: Centre Court, Middle Level, Castle Towers Shopping Centre.
Prizes: Heat winners $100, Runners Up $50; Final winners $300.
