Region's potential attracts Champion to WSABE

By Angelo Risso

THERE’S one reason more than any other that Champion Legal support the Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence. It’s the people of Western Sydney.

“There’s an astronomical number of businesses out there in Western Sydney who are all employing people, and those people put their houses on the line, they sacrifice their time, time with family and put in an enormous effort in the interests of building a strong asset in their business – and we believe in those people,” said Champion Legal’s General Manager Michelle Forrester.

Sponsoring the Excellence in Small Business award for the third consecutive year, the five-partner law firm based in Parramatta is the perfect sponsor for the accolade – it celebrates its 120th birthday this year.

“We’ve certainly got longevity, and we work really hard to make sure our systems, processes and people are supported, so we invest money to ensure that we’re not behind the times,” said Ms Forrester.

“We’re very community minded and very involved with our clients – so we can offer the best advice to them for their situation.”

Champion Legal specialises in all aspects of litigation, including family law and estate litigation and offers legal advisory services including business advice and estate planning.

Ms Forrester says that the modern nature of the family unit means that there are less simple or ‘normal’ families today and so Champion Legal’s estate planning team have adapted to offer a comprehensive estate planning service.

“It’s not like the old days where it was more straightforward, it is about what’s important for them and what do they value, and how do they want to proceed in their lives now,” she said.

“Many small business owners aspire to build their business so that it will provide for them in retirement.  This requires good planning and Champions has worked with other professional advisors such as risk experts and wealth managers in helping clients make their business more successful.

Ms Forrester says an environment of goodwill is also critical in the realm of Family Law.

“We really like to get to know our clients, and understand their concerns and their hopes for the future,” she said.

“We get some people in saying, ‘I’m not happy in my marriage, what can I do about it? before they’ve contemplated speaking with their Partner. We explain the process to them, and help them with a strategy to move their life forward”.

“It’s about being proactive and positive and trying to get the best outcome for everybody.”
