NEW ERA OF HEALTH CARE

New tower for Gosford Hospital
THE $348M redevelopment of Gosford Hospital took another giant leap forward recently with the official opening of an 11-storey clinical tower.

On hand to do the honours were NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Health Minister Brad Hazzard.

First-class healthcare was on show as Coast health officials ran Ms Berejiklian and Mr Hazzard through the state-of-the-art technology.

“Together with the $200M Wyong Hospital redevelopment, the Gosford Hospital redevelopment is delivering next-generation, first-class health care to the Central Coast,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“The technological advancements in the new 11-storey tower block are incredible, including - for the first time - a nuclear medicine service which will greatly improve diagnoses for a range of conditions and speed up scans for emergency patients.

Mr Hazzard said clinicians and the community contributed to the innovative design.

“The new tower has been designed with patients in mind, with privacy and comfort front and centre,” he said.

“The Intensive Care Unit has the largest windows of any public hospital in the state, and a courtyard with oxygen and gas fittings means some of our sickest patients can be outside.”

The new tower features:

• A new Special Care Nursery, with expanded capacity for newborn cots from 10 to 15 and pull-out beds for parents and carers.
• A new Intensive Care Unit with glass screens that can be switched to opaque (instead of curtains).
• A new MRI machine to diagnose stroke, cancer, infection and joint abnormalities.
• Single or double rooms each with ensuite and a patient/relative lounge.
• Dedicated staff and patient lifts to offer more privacy.

The complete redevelopment, due to be complete by late 2019, also includes a new $35.5M carpark with 800 extra spaces and refurbished spaces for allied health, cancer day unit, emergency short stay unit and cardiovascular services.

Meanwhile, the Wyong Hospital redevelopment continues apace, with an injection in this year’s State Budget of $23.5M and an allocation of $6.5M for a new carpark.

Construction of the carpark began in January 2018 with completion of the first stage expected by the end of this year.
It will deliver an additional 320 additional parking bays, bringing the total car spaces to 500.

The $200M Wyong Hospital redevelopment will include:

• A new emergency department.
• A new intensive care unit.
• A new paediatric assessment unit.
• Additional inpatient units.
• Expanded surgical services, including additional operating theatre capacity.
• Increased maternity services.
