CAR PARKING PETITION LAUNCHED

"I want to hear from commuters"
LUCY WICKS
WITH around one in four people across the Central Coast commuting long distances to work each day, leaving early in the morning and returning late at night to their families, locals know all too well why we need better infrastructure for our commuters and this includes parking.

The ATO in Gosford has seen 600 local jobs flow into our region, a game-changer for Gosford. As more locals are able to live and work on the Central Coast, the need for more parking spaces is becoming a critical issue.

I’ve heard the frustrations of our hard-working commuters who are finding it extremely difficult to get a car space at Gosford or Woy Woy Station any time before 6am.

Some commuters have told me they drive to the station early and sleep in their cars for over an hour just to make sure they can get a car park.

It’s why I’m launching a Car Parking Petition to help deliver the vital infrastructure that is needed for our commuters and for the future of our region.

To make sure that we are backing the tens of thousands of locals that to commute to Sydney or Newcastle for work each day.

Our petition will fight for funding to deliver bigger and better infrastructure to help ease congestion in parking hot spots like Gosford and Woy Woy stations. The NSW Government, Central Coast Council and the Treasurer will receive a copy of every petition that’s signed.

I’m looking forward to working with all levels of government on this important issue. Already the NSW State Government has announced the establishment of a new Traffic and

Parking Sub Committee to tackle the issue of car parking in Gosford’s CBD and Central Coast Council is currently developing a new parking strategy for Gosford.

I want to hear from our hardworking commuters and local businesses to ensure that our plans reflect your needs and the needs of our growing region.

We are also backing our commuters and hardworking locals with transport projects focused on building local communities, connecting the regions and our cities, busting congestion and boosting productivity, while creating local jobs.

Construction is underway on NorthConnex the M1-M2 missing link to save commuters up to 15 minutes and work has now started on M1 upgrades between the Kariong and Somersby interchanges.

We are also delivering on our commitment for continuous mobile phone coverage along the 60 kilometre-section of track from Wyong to Hornsby which is on track, set to be switched on by the end of next year and soon, free Wi-Fi will also be available at train stations.

I often hear from commuters at train station like Zac from Springfield who told me that this commitment would help him and thousands of other locals be more productive on the trip to and from work.

We've announced 'Faster Rail' funding for the NSW Government to explore options for upgrading the rail line between Sydney and Newcastle with the aim to reduce travel time from 3 to 2 hours.

About 30,000 Central Coast residents commute every day to work and we know that their time is precious. The Australian Government will co-fund the business case with the NSW Government, with it expected to be delivered in the next 12 to 18 months.

This petition will add your voice to the fight for the vital infrastructure and parking that Gosford and Woy Woy need.
