New suburb planned for Box Hill

A PLANNING proposal to re-zone a large section of Box Hill North to accommodate a new residential community has been forwarded to the NSW Government for gateway determination and is on exhibition for public comment.

The proposal would see 380 hectares of land rezoned outside the North West Growth centre to include approximately 4000 homes; a 5.5 hectare town centre; open space; environmental land, a school and infrastructure.

Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne said the re-zoning would help provide homes for the expected 100,000 additional residents expected in the Sydney Hills over the next 25 years.

“This is a land owner initiated proposal that will have no additional cost to Government,” Mayor Byrne said.

Mayor Byrne said that Council would work with the developer to ensure that housing diversity and affordability were achieved in a way that maintained the character of the Shire.
